Do Downtown!

If you are in the mood to get out of your comfy suburban surroundings and venture downtown, this is a great week to do it on a budget!  Downtown Cincinnati Restaurant Week is in full swing, and this means fantastic prices on yummy meals at some of the area's best restaurants.  Many restaurants are offering 3 courses for 2 people for $35 bucks.  Worth it if you haven't tried these places or want to return to a favorite (ahem, Jeff Ruby's).

I personally think Via Vite looks great because it's a restaurant that Steve and I talk about patroning, but haven't quite made the visit.  I especially like that all 3 courses are savory dishes as I'm not always wanting dessert.  Other standouts include Orchids at the Palm Court (if you haven't dined in this establishment for dinner, you are missing out -- it's really fantastic) and Nicola's.

Some of the other restaurants are generally good choices (i.e., Mortons and Palominos), but not unique to Cincinnati and since this is Downtown Cincinnati Restaurant Week, I'd say let's keep it in the family and go local.

Enjoy!

Egg Spread of Yore

I've been known to take a recipe and make a few tweaks based on what I have in the fridge or generally what tastes yummy.  Today's lunch is no exception.

I must confess.  I. Love. Egg. Salad.  BUT, I only like mine, my mom's, and grandma Barbara's.  My mom makes her's chunky style with mayo, salt, and pepper.  Grandma Barbara used to make her's blender-style to make it smooth and always added scallion.

Today I managed to make a combo of the two with a secret ingredient:  Avocado!

6 eggs
1 avocado
Chives
A few tablespoons of mayo
1 teaspoon of dijon
Salt
Pepper
Hungarian Paprika

Mix eggs, avocado, mayo, and dijon in Blender:

Viola!

The avocado makes the egg salad more of an egg spread with a lovely green hue and the hungarian paprika gives an otherwise mellow dish some bite.  I use chives because they don't assault your taste buds like scallions. Spread this on a bit of pumpernickel bread and you have a tasty lunch or snack.

Yes, please.

Going Live

This blog really is just a musing on my every day and a way to share my interests.  Cooking.  Kitties. Drinking Wine. Pop Culture.  Cincinnati.  Eating.

If you find something of interest -- awesome.  If you are facebook stalking -- that's creepy.  Haha.  If you are generally looking to find fun recipes and pictures -- this could be a good place for you.  If you aren't sure how you stumbled upon this -- I can't help you.

Tomorrow my new camera arrives in the mail, Olympus Pen E-Pl2 camera, the impetus for me starting this blog.  I look forward to sharing my updates with you and in the mean time, I leave you with this little picture:
